Prerequisites:
Ability to perform duties as assigned by the Functional
Position Description
Current Texas Department of State Health Services EMT-Intermediate Certification
or completion of this program's EMT-Intermediate Course.
Must provide proof of the following:
TDSHS EMT-Basic or EMT-Intermediate Certification
DPS Criminal History
Immunization Record: Hep B Series, Tetanus (last 10 years), Polio, MMR, and a negative PPD or Chest X-Ray in the last 12 months.
A willingness to learn.

Paramedic Completion
Course Length:
Didactic: 336 hours (Lecture and
Lab)
E.M.S. Rotations: Minimum 156 hours
Emergency Dept. Rotations: Minimum 80 hours
Total: 572 hours
The course lasts approximately eight
calendar months.
The course meets from 6p-10p on as well as an average of two Saturday classes
a month which meet from 9a-6p.
Course Overview
Paramedic Completion Course is designed to prepare the student to enter the
advanced level of prehospital care. The course covers skills such as medication
administration, defibrillation, transcutaneous pacing and synchronized carioversion.
The Paramedic Course is taught to the DOT cirriculum and the number of course
hours exceeds the minimum number of course hours as assigned by the Texas Department
of State Health Services. Once the student has successfully completed the course,
they are eligible for certification with the National Registry of Emergency
Medical Technicians. Once certified by the National Registry of Emergency Medical
Technicians, the student is eligible to apply for certification or licensure
with the Texas Department of State Health Services (which is required to be
a Paramedic in Texas).

Student Manual, ACLS, PALS, PEPP, and CPR Certification)
