Current Texas Department of State Health Services EMT-Basic Certification.
Must provide proof of the following:
TDSHS EMT-Basic Certification
DPS Criminal History
Immunization Record: Hep B Series, Tetanus (last 10 years), Polio, MMR, and a negative PPD or Chest X-Ray in the last 12 months.
A willingness to learn.

Emergency Medical Technician-Intermediate
Course Length:
Didactic: 228 hours (Lecture and
Lab)
E.M.S. Rotations: Minimum 108 hours
Emergency Dept. Rotations: Minimum 56 hours
Total: 392 hours
The course lasts approximately five
and a half calendar months.
The course meets from 6p-10p on as well as an average of two Saturday classes
a month which meet from 9a-6p.
Course Overview
Emergency Medical Technician-Intermediate Course (EMT-I Course) is designed
to prepare the student to enter the advanced level of prehospital care. The
course covers skills such as advanced airway, IV therapy, and medication administration.
The EMT-Intermediate Course is taught to the DOT cirriculum and the number of
course hours exceeds the minimum number of course hours as assigned by the Texas
Department of State Health Services. Once the student has successfully completed
the course, they are eligible for certification with the National Registry of
Emergency Medical Technicians. Once certified by the National Registry of Emergency
Medical Technicians, the student is eligible to apply for certification with
the Texas Department of State Health Services (which is required to be an EMT-I
in Texas).
Upon completion of this course, the student may attend a Paramedic Completion Course to obtain Paramedic certification/licensure. Click here for Paramedic Completion Course Page.
