Welcome to the SMHCEMS HIPAA training site

 

This site will provide you with the required inservice for information on HIPAA Compliance as it relates to EMS personnel. After completing the slide presentation come back to this page to take your test.

HIPAA Compliance deadline is April 14th 2003. SMHCEMS is required to implement policies and procedures outlined in this training session. All employees are required to be trained and tested on this material.

This training does not cover every instance and rule under the new guidelines however this should provide you with a general understanding of the Privacy Rule.

SMHCEMS has assigned persons with the following required responsibilities:

Tom Partin: All requests for Copies, Amendments and Complaints from patients concerning problems with PHI.

John Moseley: Privacy Officer. Continue to update and make recommendations to remain compliant with current HIPAA guidelines. Maintain guidelines pertaining to the Privacy Rule.

 

Any of the three persons listed above may accept reports of any violation pertaining to PHI. This should assure that an employee may report any violation in an immediate fashion to prevent further exposure or risk to PHI.
